The World Champions


Everybody’s quiet now and the spotlights are on the man at the center table. The man bends down, aims and concentrates on his angle. Trying to get a good grip and feel, he sways his cue stick slowly while pondering on the white ball in front of him and eyeing the 9-ball. As he inhaled his last breath, he strokes his cue, hitting the cue ball. Eventually the white ball crawls, gently nudging number 9 and dropping it into the hole at the corner pocket. As the crowd surges and roars, a new champion is declared to become the number 1 in the world of pool!

Who knows how many pool masters have shared this victorious experience and all the strapping that came after it. One thing’s for sure, they all deserved to be in the top spot of billiards with their talent, skill, dedication and hard work. So let’s get to know the names that dominate the pool halls:

 
 
    Efren “The Magician” Reyes – Popularly known as ‘Bata’ or ‘kid’ in his hometown, Angeles City, Phiippines, Efren is arguably the greatest player on pool, particularly 9-ball billiards. This Philippine sports legend started playing pool at the tender age of 8. From then on, The Magician constantly learned every technique and shots of the pros.
Earl “The Pearl” Strickland – Also entered the world of billiards at an early age, Earl Strickland have racked up several titles making him one of the most distinguished pool players. “The Pearl” also gained the title gained the title of the Million Dollar Man as he won the consecutive racks ran title stringing up an unbelievable 13 racks.
 
Mika “Iceman” Immonen – Mika is the new image of pool! This physically fit Finnish athlete did have the passion for sports in his young life. He believes that a mixture of fun and passion of the game can take you to success. The “Iceman” had definitely frozen his enemies to victory and grabbing huge titles like Mosconi-Cup 2002 Champion, LG Flatron Challenge 2002 Champion, Scandinavian Champion 2002, and a whole lot more.
Johnny “The Scorpion” Archer – “You’ll never know what’s going to happen next!” This is the famous line from pool master Johnny Archer. Recently named Player of the Year by Billiards Digest and Pool and Billiards, “The Scorpion”
 
Allison “Duchess of Doom” Fisher – Started winning snooker at age 15, Allison Fisher made known to the whole world that billiards can be ruled by women. The “Duchess of Doom” has ranked #1 and was named Player of the Year for five consecutive years. With the racketeering success of Fisher, we can clearly see the trend of females following her footsteps into the world of pool.
Jeanette “Black Widow” Lee – Exotic beauty in black outfit with excellent cue handling, there’s no other name you can think of other than the “Black Widow” herself, Jeannette Lee. One of the most recognized player in the world, Lee had also climbed the top ranks of women’s pool. She was ranked #1 in WPBA in 1993 and has won several tournaments like Atlanta Women’s Open and Ladies Tournament of Champions. Her book, The Black Widow's Guide to Killer Pool, has been a favorite among pool enthusiasts
